The Jute Department has filed a departmental case against three farmers for trying to sell wet jute in a raid at Bogura’s Dhunat Upazila haat.
Chief Inspector of Bogura Jute Department Dr. Shohel Rana conducted the operation on Saturday. At that time 21 different types of wet jute of different varieties were seized from three farmers.
The accused farmers are Babu Mia, son of Mojibur Rahman of Bilchapari village, Solaiman Hossain, son of Abdul Quader of Narayanpur village of Dhunat and another farmer Muslim Uddin, son of Kazem Uddin of Kazipur Upzilla in Sirajganj.
According to local sources, farmers from different areas of Dhunat came to Dhunat Haat on Saturday morning to sell jute. Farmers are getting good price of jute in the market this time. Besides, wet jute is being sold in the market in the hope of making more profit by some Brokers. Upon receiving such news, the Chief Inspector of the Jute Department raided the market. Seeing his presence, the farmers left the autovan loaded with wet jute. At that time 440kg Wet Jute were seized of farmer Babu Mia, 200kg of Solaiman Hossain and 200kg of Muslim Uddin.
Jute traders Liaquat Ali, Sohrab Hossain and Hafizur Rahman said that some unscrupulous small traders bought jute from the houses of farmers and sold it in the market mixed with water for weight gain. Besides, some farmers also do this kind of work. As a result, the quality of jute deteriorates.
Dr. Shohel Rana, Chief Inspector of Jute Department in Bogura confirmed the information and said that products which made with wet jute are not sustainable. This is a detrimental aspect for jute products. Therefore, legal action is being taken against these dishonest people. Following this, a departmental case has been filed against them.
